World Hypertension Day 2017

OBS in Collabration with PHL is Leading the Fight Against Hypertension
Pakistan Hypertension league (PHL) in collaboration with World Hypertension league (WHL) celebrated May Measurement Month during the month of May 2017.
All across Pakistan health care professionals and mass general public were the audiences which were engaged,through awareness in Medical newspapers, Awareness walks, Patients education leaflets Blood Pressure monitoring camps in tertiary care hospitals. 



World Hypertension day emblem was developed and over 3,000 HCPs were engaged through it.This emblem was an insignia of hope for patients, and HCPs wearing this created awareness for the patients and their fellow doctors. The message communicated the need to control hypertension and emphasized for its proper management.




Pulse advertisement:

PHL engaged HCPs all across Pakistan by publishing WHD (World
Hypertension day) advertisement in Pulse medical newspaper. PULSE is one of the most respectable and reputed medical newspaper, with largest coverage throughout Pakistan. The advert covered the messages of PHL president, General Secretary and
CEO OBS Pakistan for hypertension day. It shared the vision of screening masses blood pressure to collaborate and be part of the MMM theme.
Hypertension Leaflet:

Patient leaflet on creating awareness for Hypertension was developed for increasing knowledge of the patients.
The leaflet covered, what are the symptoms, Do’s and Dont’s for hypertensive patients, how to measure the BP numbers and how to adopt healthy lifestyle for avoiding hypertension.
Caps and Placards:

Caps and Placards bearing the messages for patients to measure their numbers were also used during the walks and educational programs, which created the urge among the masses to take initiative and get their BP numbers checked.
PHL with leading public hospitals in coordination with OBS Pakistan arranged numerous awareness programs, walks and screening camps across Pakistan, Details for some of them as per below:
May Measurements Month started with awareness walk in PIMS hospital Islamabad, where leading Drs Dr. Asad Riaz Kitchlew and Dr. Akhtar Ali were engaged.
This walk was followed by a mega program in Karachi for awareness walk at Karachi Medicaland Dental College and an awareness program at Avari Hotel, Karachi under the collaborationof PHL Karachi Chapter, where Prof M Ishaq, Prof Khawar Kazmi, Prof A.Rasheed Khan, Prof M.A. Azhar Faruqui, Prof Nawaz Lashari and Prof Abu Noem Faruqui and Prof Qaisar Jamal shared their views to fight against hypertension.
These mega programs officially marked the start of May Measurement Month in Pakistan. After which the 17 chapters of PHL celebrated Hypertension awareness program throughout Pakistan, some of the leading events are as per below:

PHL Peshawar chapter under the guidance of Prof. Adnan Mahmood Gul and Prof. Amber Ashraf, arranged mega awareness program in PC hotel Peshawar covering the leading hospitals of Peshawar and their HCPs.

Punjab Institute of cardiology (PIC) program was led by Prof Nadeem Hayyat Malick, Prof Shahid Ameen, Dr Bilal Mohydin (PHL Lahore chapter).
- Sheikh Zayed Hopsital Lahore arranged awareness program for their patients and doctors where Dr Qazi Saboor and Dr Qazi Tufail shared their insights in how to manage hypertension.
- In Gujrat the program was led by Dr Mahfooz Ahmad and Dr Muhammad Zahid (PHL Gujrat chapter).

- In Multan the program was led by Prof Ijaz Ahmed and Dr Kashif Ali Hashmi (PHL Multan chapter).
RCCH hospital in Hyderabad arranged awareness walk and program under the guidance of Dr Fazal Rehma and Dr Abdul Rab Sheikh.
- In Sukkur the awareness programs and walk was led by Dr Raj Kumar, Prof Altaf Sheikh, Dr Kheraj Matani, Dr Abrar Sheikh, Dr Iftikhar Shah and Dr Saleh Channa. (PHL Sukkur Chapter)
PHL Sargodha chapter under the guidance of Dr Azhar Rasheed, Dr Tayyab Husnain and Dr Umer Hayat led the awareness program PHL Sargodha Chapter
Most importantly all these programs were followed with patient screening and measurement of their BP numbers.




The Hypertension day marked an important milestone throughout Pakistan, that no matter its Urban or Rural population, we all face the risk of hypertension and HCPs cannot emphasize enough on measurement of our numbers and its management. With this pledge we as a nation will win the fight against Hypertension.
